Football Federation Victoria’s (FFV) Annual General Meeting was held tonight at the new FFV offices.
In attendance at the meeting was FFV President, Tony Dunkerley and the FFV Board; FFV CEO, Mark Rendell; FFA Director, Jack Reilly; Zone Representatives; Standing Committee Chairs and Members; Life Members, and FFV staff.
Those in attendance were presented with the 2009 Annual Report; a presentation by FFV CEO Mark Rendell about football in Victoria in 2009; the 2009 financials by FFV Board Member, Mark Trajcevski; and a speech by FFA Director, Jack Reilly.
In his introduction, FFV President, Tony Dunkerley highlighted the fantastic year football in Victoria had in 2009, and the importance of FFV’s Strategic Plan for the continued development of football in Victoria.
“I believe the strategies we have in place are the right ones going forward, but we will continue to re-visit the current Strategic Plan and prioritise what’s important for football in Victoria,” Mr Dunkerley said.
Mr Dunkerley also stressed the importance of financial stability to support our existing clubs and continue the push for more facilities for the continued growth of our game.
2009 was a very significant year for football in Victoria, as we celebrated our 125th anniversary.
During the year, FFV held a number of special events to celebrate this milestone, including, an official function at Young and Jacksons which coincided with the Victorian Premier League launch and the unveiling of the 125 year corporate logo; a 125-year-themed Gold Medal Night; a friendly against Northern NSW (who were also celebrating their 125th anniversary),; the formation of a Historical Committee to preserve the history of our great game in Victoria; and the presentation of Roy Hay and Ian Syson’s historical book, The Story of Football in Victoria, which was officially launched by Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, Minister James Merlino, and presented at the Life Members annual lunch at Young and Jacksons.
In 2009, participation continued to increase, with outdoor registrations surpassing 50,000 for the first time.
In presenting a summary of the financial performance of FFV from the last financial year, Mr Trajcevski announced a significant surplus, which was an increase from the previous year. The reasons were the continued growth of football in Victoria, greater sponsorship and better management.
Mr Trajcevski said the long-term strategy is to build greater cash reserves by being creative and exploiting the non-traditional forms of revenue streams.
Mr Reilly took questions about the state of football in Australia and Victoria at the moment, and spoke of the importance of Victorians supporting top-level football in Australia.
Life Member applications were put forward from three of the Regional Associations - Bendigo Amateur Soccer League, Geelong Region Football Association and Football Federation Sunraysia, which are all now integrating into FFV.
Vasko Stojcevski was also awarded Life Membership on the night for his outstanding contribution to football over 15 years. Vasko has been a Player, Coach and Administrator at many clubs, including East Brunswick, Altona City and Williamstown. In 1995, Vasko joined Altona Magic as their National Youth League Coach and Under 21 VPL Coach. Whilst at the club, Vasko also held the position of Club Secretary and was a member of the VPL Management Committee in 1995-96.
Vasko joined the then Victorian Soccer Federation (VSF) in 1996 and was part of an independent board where Vasko became an Independent Commissioner of the VSF. Vasko served as Treasurer of the VSF/FFV for 9 years and at the same time was FFV Deputy Chairman for 7 years. In 2005, Vasko was elected as FFV President, a position he held until August 2007. Vasko was instrumental in delivering the FFV Constitutional Reform with his fellow Directors and is a worthy recipient for FFV Life Membership.
